Gaynell Pizzaro: I think a single parent is the one that have full custody of the child.
Ilana Gaster: Single Father - Full custody of the children, mother no where in sight.
Sylvie Snetting: To me, being a "single parent" implies that the parent has sole or joint custody of his/her child(ren). A parent who only sees his child every other weekend is not really a single parent since most of the parenting responsibilities are taken care of by the other parent.
Lilli Kochel: whoever has the child more is the primary caregiver for sure. i think a single mother/father is someone who has no help at all from the other parent.
Norine Lomonte: I think it could apply to either situation, but when I hear the term "single father" I generally think first of a man that has primary custody of his child/children.
Joie Kemmis: When i hear the term my mind automatically jumps to a man who is the sole caregiver or caregiver the majority of the time. Ditto for w! hen i hear "single mother".But...if you wanted to get all technical, a single man who watches his children on the weekend and/or in the summer IS a single father as well. He still parents by himself for a portion of the time, even if it's merely a small portion. I mean, what else would you call him? Not a babysitter...because he's a FATHER. "Part-time" dad? Sure, i guess that would work. But so does single father....Show more
Oren Eskelsen: To me a single father has sole custody of the child and is the primary caregiver.
