Two motorcycles are traveling due east with different velocities.?

Kellie Waycott: vAi = ? initial velocity of Motorcycle AvBi = ? initial velocity of Motorcycle BaA = 1.4 -> acceleration of motorcycle AaB = 19.7-> acceleration of motorcycle B t = time = 4.2svf = final velocity of bikes. consider both bikes separately:vf = vAi + aA * t = vAi + 1.4m/s^2*4.2s = vAi + 5.88m/svf = vAi + aB * t = vBi + 19.7m/s^2*4.2s = vBi + 82.74m/sfinal velocities are the same so we can equate thesevAi + 5.88 = vBi + 82.74vAi - vBi = 76.86m/s is the difference in intial velocitiesmotorcycle A was moving faster initially because it had to accelerate at a lower rate to reach equal speed with motorcycle B...Show more

Daren Ventrice: Could it be that the speed isn t a factor until you first determine the distance & the fact that they both reached the same point at the same time? Which would mean that no matter the fluctuatin speeds, durin the time span it s only the average that counts. If they left at same time & arrived at the same time, doesn t that ! mean they actually went the same speed?

Tijuana Tatsak: Their beginning speeds differed by 76.86 m/s. A was going faster before accelerating, they're both going the same speed at the end of the 4.2 second period.
