Why, do you suppose, does the lie that men's health recieves higher priority then women's health continue...?

Marielle Hedeiros: Mens health is not given as much attention as a woman is. If a man has a problem "below" he has many fewer options that a woman does.

Boyce Gilhooly: *Does* the lie continue? This is the first time I've ever heard it. And I spend time trolling a feminist section of a website, even if it's not the most academically rigorous feminist website in the world. It seems reasonable to me that perhaps back in the 1950s and 1960s, mens' medical complaints were taken more seriously than womens'. I'm sure that's not true anymore. And I've never heard anyone try to convince me that it is....Show more

Jude Colbenson: @Cosmic: hiding behind children now, eh? Nice. One merely has to note that the above article, and federal budgets themselevs, show that for many many decades we have spent more ON WOMEN (not children) than on men. Indeed, as the article notes, as I noted above, and as you choose to hide from, men die from EVERY major cause of death at youn! ger ages than women. That has NOTHING whatsoever to do with child-bearing. Yet we continue to spend more on women in every major sector of federal taxpayer spending (research, screening and diagnosis, treatment)....Show more

Brock Anwar: All I have to say to this is that MRA's should be lobbying for more health benefits instead of wasting time in online debate forums. The energy MRA's spend online could be more beneficial in the real world.

Coleman Deliberato: when someones argument wont stand on its own merit with logic & facts. they need to use smear tactics & overly demonize any opposition to malign or stifle them. and they overly victimize themselves. theyre hoping to appeal to peoples emotions rather than their logic & reasoning.also our culture in the states has become where anyone who attests to being victims of discrimination often receives privileged or special treatment....Show more

Paul Maymi: The lie has continued for the most part because! men have never challenged it in the past...we've simply accep! ted it.The article is very interesting...thanks for posting it.@ Jared: Perhaps you should read the article? Although the article doesn't call them "feminists," it notes that the "Women's American Medical Association" (I guess it's just the collective of female Doctors) advocated the charge that Clinton pushed in 1993 when he claimed that women's health in the USA is neglected. The figure they preoccupied themselves with apparently was that just 13.5% of health care funding is apportioned to women's health issues.Of course the article explains that what was left out of the health care funding debate was that of the remaining 86.5% of health care funding, 80% was issued to health issues that effect both men and women...while just 6.5% was apportioned to funding men's health issues.Feminists haven't needed to repeat the lie because women already have more of the devoted funding, AND women have had administrations that are sympathetic to them getting an even bigger share for! women's health issues.@ Nuclear Fusion: I suggest you read the article...it clearly states that pregnancy related matters are taken out of the study material!@ Thomas: How do you know that we're not pushing for greater funding for prostate cancer research and treatment? It's possible to be online AND be active in the regular world as well....Show more

Rodrigo Pezley: edt - year after year, we spend more federal taxpayer dollars on women's health research and medical care despite the fact that men die younger from every major cause of death.

Jed Porada: Huh? Men's health is neglected, even women acknowledge that dude.

Clementina Collelo: I read that and it pissed me off where people are saying that women are neglected in health care. Thats a bold face lie and I am proof of that. I am a War Veteran of the United States of America and receive health care thru the VA and never did I feel that I was neglected or a man was placed over me. The VA has women! s health care, they are extremely concerned about the health of women. ! I also have health insurance thru the military and no Doctor has ever been biased because I was a woman. These women that claim this bunch of bull crap are liars and the truth is not in them. And here is another lie that they said that men are more often included in research than women are, I was part of a Gult War research in 2002 where they took 2000 miltitary personnel, 1000 being Gulf War Veterans along with their families and 1000 non Gulf War Veterans along with their families and did an extensive examination to find if the effects of War was different between them. I also was ask to attend a conference of Gulf War Veterans at the Pentegon to discuss the effect of War among service members and to find ways to improve problems that arose among service members in the war. They were very concerned about women in a war situation and wanted to hear our voice. This was for members in Medical Units where a large number of women are deployed. They wanted to hear our comp! laints both male and female to eleviate same problems in future wars.So to the people that believe woman are neglected in health care, I just proved you WRONG!!!!! We are treated equal to a man if not somewhat better and that is with government health care....Show more

Russell Mckinzie: if women get more help as you're saying can ib be becos they're pro active in seek health check up? men dont want to go to lab for check up how is this women's problem? men should also be pro active. i HAVE to FORCE my hubby to visit dentist other wise he wont go............................your country has NOT have a female president more leader's are male so you should talk to them! NFL had a very active "Breast Cancer Awareness" campaign this past Sunday: some fields had the pink ribbon painted, how did women do any thing in this? how did feminist's do anything in this? ppl in U.S.A should probaby elect women leader's and wellcome them with open arm's in politic's perhaps then your ! health care system will get boost....Show more

Mitzie Clough: I h! avent ever come across this "lie". I think everybody is very well aware that more time, money and effort is put into womens health than mens.

Abraham Ladick: There are likely many reasons that women receive more health care. One is that they become pregnant and give birth, so in effect, they get care (government provides it to low income women) in order to ensure the health of their babies. Two, the article states that women are more likely to be proactive about seeking health care. They have less hangups about going to see a doctor. Lastly, I have not heard anyone make the claim that TODAY women's medical issues are ignored as they have been in the past. We live in a society that strongly values healthy babies and children. Women have received medical attention and other benefits as part of society's concern for the well-being of their offspring. MRA's misconstrue concern for babies and children as concern for women. I can understand to an extent why they dra! w this faulty conclusion. It reminds me of MRA's complaining about having to pay child support, as some of them see it as "benefitting the mother." They often ignore or forget the central issue, which is actually the well-being of the child.Edit: I read the article. Here's an excerpt:"In the United States women seek out and consequently receive more medical care than men. This is true even if pregnancy-related care is excluded. Department of Health and Human Services surveys show that women visit doctors more often than men, are hospitalized more often, and undergo more operations. Women are more likely than men to visit a doctor for a general physical exam when they are feeling well, and complain of symptoms more often. Thus two out of every three health-care dollars are spent by women."For crying out loud. If 2 out of 3 health care dollars are spent by women, who do you think is going to benefit from that?...Show more

Tereasa Sorensen: edit - actually that is ! good that some are now recognizing the lie for what it is. Mainstream! feminist groups like NOW still propagate it. As did several posters tonight, a short time ago. But if most recognize this lie for what it is, that is good.
