How would switching all vehicles in the US to run on alternative fuels help the US economy?

Margart Stimpert: if the people are moving about.......they are spending money......you keep them home. they keep the money.....simple huh.....

Hai Biggart: it would force business to start building new infrastructure to handle alternative fuels. this has both good and bad points.good because it means jobs, and investment, and it means cleaner energy sources, and perhaps energy independence.bad because it forces investment in new infrastructure, likely at a faster rate than would be wise, and it would put a severe strain on economic resources that could be used to better effect elsewhere.if you want to use the force of law you need to temper it somewhat, and make it push alternative energy use incrementally. start by making it mandatory that automakers start producing cars that are dual fuel cars, not just flex fuel, in the next 5 years. it should start with say 1% of total cars produced. you would also have to make it a requirement that the energy companies start b! uilding the needed infrastructure to handle dual fuel cars. it can start in a few areas, like say los angeles and san francisco. this would get alternative energy cars a toe hold in the publics mind as they would actually see real people driving real dual fuel cars, and not just a few government vehicles or company cars on the roads.if you start slowly, and work incrementally then by 2050 all cars, or at least 90% of them, would be alternative fuel cars....Show more

Anibal Scheid: It depends on your definition of "help." Would it force more people to WALK and exercise? Yep! Thus, the exercise would mean a healthier population and fewer people visiting their doctors in hospitals. Would it mean sending less money to the Middle East where people live who would like nothing more than to kill ALL of us? Yep. So, yes, it would help.Would it help you to get to your job on time? No, but don't let THAT influence you! *laughter*...Show more

Victor Macallister: It ! would kill the economy. We do not have the alternative fuel th! at would be used yet, so the car manufacturers would not know what to build. What is the fuel you have selected? Is it available? Is it enough? What is the cost of producing it? That is the problem now. Everyone just says "Lets go alternatives" and everything will be ok. Which one? What is the cost? How much do we need and will it be available? etc. etc. etc....Show more

Faustino Mellerson: simply because the existing car companies would have tochange their production line instead of closing down.and, of course, a dramatic reduction of oil imports wouldhelp the economy.think logically!...Show more

Lu Tiner: It would cripple the economy. The additional cost to build such cars, plus the additional cost to buy alternative fuels would make the cost to travel by car prohibitive. The american infrastructure is designed for automobile travel. We have no other option.Face it, if the alternative fuels can't compete with petroleum products then we are stuck with gasoline ! and diesel. Petroleum is here to stay as long as it is the cheap alternative....Show more

Alexander Villas: You will need to define alternative fuels. If you want to stop coal plants, then the cars CANNOT be electric. If you only want ethanol or biodiesel, then how many people must starve?
