Where is the battery in a light aircraft ?

Neely Youngblut: (in a 172) It has a shelf it sits on located on the firewall... I believe it is on the pilot side.

Lana Uliano: Wherever it needs to be for weight and balance. Some might be on the firewall, or under the seat, or behind the cockpit.

Ardelia Liptow: It all depends upon the aircraft.Some Cessnas have them on the forward (engine) side of the firewall. Sometimes on the left, sometimes the right side.Older Piper Cherokees either had them under the rear bench seat on the pilot's side. Some were aft of the main cabin in the fuselage just aft of the baggage compartment and on the co-pilot's side.Mooneys had them behind the cabin, in the fuselage, accessed thru a panel on the pilot's side of the aircraft.So typically they can be on the forward side of the firewall, under a seat, or just aft of the cabin, in the forward part of the aft fuselage....Show more
